A journey between jazz and classical improvisation
From self-taught pianist at 15 to the Paris National Conservatory, Kellian Camus charts a unique path at the crossroads of genres.
Training
Kellian discovered the piano as a self-taught musician around the age of 15, driven by his passion for video game music. He quickly pursued professional training at the Didier Lockwood Jazz School (CMDL), before winning the first prize at the Léopold Bellan international competition in the jazz category in 2019.
He then joined the Paris National Conservatory of Music and Dance (CNSMDP), where he trained in the classical improvisation class led by Jean-François Zygel, as well as in composition and orchestration.
Stage and projects
For seven years, Kellian hosted weekly jam sessions at the renowned 38Riv' Jazz Club in Paris. He now presents his project Jazzics there, which creates a creative dialogue between jazz and classical improvisation.
For four years, he also hosted high-end musical cruises for Rivages du Monde, including voyages to Spitsbergen, confirming his ability to perform across diverse contexts and musical styles.
Teaching commitment
Invited by André Manoukian as an ambassador to the French Ministry of Culture, Kellian actively advocates for the integration of improvisation in conservatories. He participates within Impro Musique in the development of an innovative teaching approach, using improvisation as a method for musical learning.
Cinema and collaborations
Thanks to his training in classical improvisation at the CNSMDP, Kellian collaborates with the Pathé Foundation and the Cinémathèque Française, accompanying silent films on piano.
